On Day Two of Stitches I took a class on reading and writing charts with JC Briar. You all know how charts make me a little crazy, but JC's explanations and extremely well-thought-out and thorough hand-outs made them seem quite a bit less intimidating. If you have an opportunity to take a class with JC, I urge you to do so.
And speaking of charts...I finished sleeve two! Now for some really crappy seaming. The sleeves were really crazy to seam, since they have increases every fourth row for most of the length. Next time, I'll leave a slipped edge stitch, even if the pattern doesn't call for it. I successfully sewed one pocket lining down last night. Actually I sewed both down, but realized too late that I sewed one onto the wrong side. Ugh, I disgust myself sometimes. Tonight I'll try that again, then will attempt to put the rest of it together during the day tomorrow when I have plenty of light and a dining room table on which to stretch everything out. (I took the day off in order to prepare and pack for our Sniffapalooza weekend in NYC.)
Anyway, back to Stitches.
I was really good. I told myself that since my class was over at 11:30, I could have ONE HOUR to wander through the market area to make purchases. And the only thing I was going to allow myself to buy was...drumroll please...Noro. Specifically, Cash Iroha, if I could find it in Woolstock's fabulous 50% off bin. And I did, in a nice burgundy shade. I also couldn't pass up a bag of Aurora (the stuff with the metallic thread in it) in my favorite red/burgundy/orange/bits of green Noro colorway. But that was it. I fondled Socks that Rock, just because I could (it was early and there was still plenty of it left), I passed by Tess Designer Yarns with nary a look, and I did not allow myself to go near Decadent Fibers because last year I wanted to roll around in their fabulously soft and yummy yarns in gorgeous autumnal hues. And that's just not seemly for such a dignified person as myself. (You there, in Texas, stop laughing.)
I don't know where Stitches East will be next year, but if it by some miracle is in Baltimore for a third year in a row, I'll be there, taking more classes. Definitely one on seaming.
